None at all. This day is built for complete beginners, and you will be taught each craft step by step with plenty of hands on deck to help. If you have never spun, woven or held a hammer in your life, you are exactly who this day is for.

You will finish your spindle-spun thread and your silver brooch to take home the same day. The weaving is designed to be well begun rather than fully finished, so you leave with your loom threaded, your project started, and everything you need to carry on at home. That is the joy of it, you keep the craft going long after the fire has gone out.

Just bring yourself. All your materials, tools and lunch are provided. Wear comfy layers you don't mind getting a bit of wool fluff on, and closed-toe shoes are sensible for the smithing part of the day. It stays cosy by the fire, but the Black Mountains in November can be nippy, so pack something warm for coming and going.

Yes, all of it. Your drop-spindle, your table-top loom, your hand-spun thread, your started weaving, and your finished silver penannular brooch are all yours to take home. The brooch in particular makes a lovely handmade Christmas gift if you would rather pass it on.

A bowl of traditional Welsh cawl is served for lunch, made fresh from scratch, with a hearty veg option available. If you have any allergies or particular dietary needs, just let us know when you book. There is also a kitchen so you can bring snacks or any special foods etc.
